Meet Jim, Tina, and Arthur

November 27, 2019
You may recognize  Joe, Luis, and Betsy from InnovAge PACE; now, meet Jim, Tina, and Arthur (and his daughter Ann). * These characters represent additional experiences of real participants (and a family caregiver) with InnovAge PACE and LIFE. Read on to learn more about them.

Jim
Jim, a 76-year-old Pennsylvania and Vietnam veteran, was an aircraft mechanic stationed in Thailand, Turkey, and Japan. As he grew older, he was having a difficult time managing his chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Before enrolling in InnovAge LIFE, he spent time in a rehabilitation hospital and was unable to continue living in his own home. Since joining the program, the team at InnovAge's Allegheny centerin Philadelphia have helped to stabilize his COPD and he's moved into a new apartment. "I do not know what I would do without LIFE," he says. Jim says he would definitely refer other veterans to the program.

Tina
At 62, Tina is shining bright at the InnovAge PACE center in San Bernardino . An artist by trade, Tina joined PACE to help meet her medical needs, including diabetes and its complications. After enrolling at InnovAge, she rediscovered her creative side and creates amazing, colorful artwork. She now dyes her hair bright colors and teaches aerobics to fellow participants in the center. “Since coming here, my mental status has improved.I enjoy being who I am and helping people to be more active, ”she says.

Arthur
Arthur, 74, is also a participant in San Bernardino. Before enrolling in PACE, Arthur's arthritis was threatening his joints, mobility, and independence. His daughter Ann is his caregiver, and together, they practice the ancient art of Tai Chi. Martial arts are believed to enhance balance, strength, and coordination. He also enjoys gardening, dancing, and walking. The InnovAge care team has helped Arthur's back pain and other medical issues, helping to keep him balanced and independent.
