Shawn Kimball, DDS
InnovAge has helped me fulfill my vision of why I chose dentistry as a career. It has long been my belief that dentistry belongs as part of a larger whole. Working in such a collaborative environment allows me to advocate for oral and dental health as an important part of systemic health. It has expanded my understanding of how dentistry is but one piece of a large and complex health puzzle. To provide care that helps seniors maintain independence, health, and personal dignity keeps me joyfully coming back day after day.
Dr. Shawn Kimball has been part of the InnovAge family since 2015. He provides comprehensive care in a geriatric-focused, truly exceptional, collaborative health environment. He is involved in multiple facets of care for the company, including creating care plans, improving electronic medical records, and updating policies, procedures, and workflows to reduce medical errors and improve overall care.
Previously, Dr. Shawn worked as an associate dentist in several group practices in Colorado and as a general dentist in Seattle, Washington. His career started in public health within the International District of Seattle where he cared for very young patients and moms. He also spent time doing community rotations at public health centers providing oral health care to under-served populations in Colorado.
He took great pride in educating and training students from his alma mater, doing his best to set an example for new dentists to treat patients as “people first.” His goal was to help cultivate the next generation of practitioners, with an emphasis on customizing plans to “meet patients where they are and help them get where they want to be.” Dr. Shawn also lectured several times for the university on geriatric clinical dentistry.
Dr. Shawn earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He earned his doctorate in Dental Surgery at UC School of Dentistry. He and his wife have two children who keep him very busy with volleyball, track, helping with homework, and volunteering. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing disc golf, practicing archery, hiking, swing dancing, and reading.
